My Story

When a project becomes a purpose

Hi, my name is Lisa du Toit. I am a Grade 7 learner with a deep love for animals, people, and the outdoors. One of my favourite activities is Landsdiens, because it brings together everything I am passionate about — nature, teamwork, and making a difference.

In December, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a National Landsdiens camp. During one of our outings, we visited SANCCOB in Port Elizabeth. This experience opened my eyes to the challenges facing penguins, especially the endangered African penguin.

Seeing their situation inspired me to take action.

What started as a school Landsdiens project has grown into a community movement where creativity, compassion and action come together to make a difference.

My project is focused on helping penguins by raising awareness and funds in fun and engaging ways.

  • Online penguin items

  • Penguin crochet teddy penguins for adoption

  • Crochet workshops

  • A Night Race event

Each activity is designed to bring people together while supporting a meaningful cause.

By supporting this project, you are helping to protect these amazing birds and contribute to their future.

Join us, get involved, and help make a difference! 🐧

The African Penguin Club is a community awareness and conservation initiative. Funds generated through our products and activities help cover project costs, expand awareness efforts, support community-based initiatives, and contribute to African penguin conservation through SANCCOB.

Together, we are creating opportunities for people to use their talents, creativity, and compassion to make a difference for both penguins and our community.

Our Mission

The African Penguin Club exists to raise awareness for the critically endangered African Penguin while inspiring people to use their talents to make a difference.

Guided by the principles of Landsdiens, we encourage creativity, learning, service and community involvement through meaningful projects that create lasting impact.

Why African Penguins?

African Penguins are one of South Africa's most iconic seabirds, yet their numbers have declined dramatically.

Scientists warn that without meaningful action, African Penguins could disappear from the wild within our children's lifetime.

By raising awareness and inspiring community involvement, we hope to play a small part in protecting their future.

How We Make a Difference?

We believe everyone has something valuable to contribute.

Through crochet projects, awareness campaigns, educational activities, community events, fundraising initiatives and volunteer opportunities, we create practical ways for people of all ages to get involved.

Every crochet penguin, every volunteer and every event helps spread awareness and create hope.
